Green house design: the Houl by Simon Winstanley Architects

The Houl is a modern one-story "long house" in Scotland, designed by the company Simon Winstanley Architects. The most important is thing that the building meets all the requirements of green standards. The project even has received several design awards for residential. The open plan allowed to place all the main rooms along one wall which is almost entirely glazed. Living room, kitchen and dining room combined into one room with a magnificent view. This block of bedrooms is characterized by a interesting design solution - the roof has a slope which follows the slope of the site. Thus, the residence blends well with surrounding nature, the Houl is part of it. For more information visit the site.

Eco Houl House by Simon Winstanley Architects

Houl House by Simon Winstanley Architects was built in Scotland. The house is situated on a hillside and partly sunk into it, which helps to protect it from cold northern winds and opens a nice view over the valley, nearby river and mountain range behind it. The residence is almost completely provided with electricity by wind turbines, large windows allow to save indoor lighting, and modern insulation system helps to keep a comfortable temperature inside the house all year round. As a result, we could see one more contemporary eco-house on the pictures below. The Houl received an Award in the Residential category of the 2010 GIA Awards.
