Unusual Shibafu Table by Emmanuelle Moureaux Architecture and Design

Have a look at this bright and even a bit odd Shibafu table created by Japanese based company Emmanuelle Moureaux Architecture and Design. The designer used 56 slender coloured acrylic sticks, embedded randomly into a piece of transparent acrylic which serves as the surface for the table. The sticks look refracting and reflecting light as if they were soaking under water. They appear and disappear, depending on the angle at which you view them. This table surely creates a certain bright and jolly mood. Cool and creative!

Ukrainian Motives: Corian furniture collection by Yaroslav Galant

At the beginning of March the Ukrainian designer Yaroslav Galant presented his new furniture collection in Kiev. The Corian furniture was inspired by the traditional Ukrainian motives. The main colours of the collection are white, black and red as the colours of the native embroidery. It consists of such pieces as ottomans, sofa, various coffee tables, round dining table, bed, bed side tables, screen, wardrobe, rack, chandelier, TV & entertainment system cabinets, two types of wall boards, bath tub, wash sink, 4 mirrors and benches. The design let the furniture be used for either home interior or for hotel spaces. This unusual furniture can also become an outdoor one because of the superior stain-resistant qualities of solid DuPont™ Corian® material. It looks bright but elegant. Have a look.

Metrobench by Stephen Shaheen: Movement Transformed into the Rest

Unveiled last month at Sloan Fine Art Gallery, the thought-provoking Metrobench was designed by Stephen Shaheen. It is both an art sculpture and unique furniture piece which looks extremely modern and creative. Using 5,000 NYC Metro cards, this smart design transforms a symbol of movement and speed into an object of rest and reflection. Each card has its own little untold story. The snips of millions of New Yorkers, with their separate lives are combined together into a fluid tapestry. The sculpture was assembled completely by hand, card by card. Very impressive and unusual!

Nest (1:2:3:4) Chair-Puzzle by Kirsten White

Nest (1:2:3:4) chair was created by Kirsten White in cooperation with Jeremy Cox and Lucas Brancalion from Brothers and Sons, for the Capacity Show in Toronto. In fact it is not a single chair but a whole series of chairs all rolled into one larger chair. The concept seems to modulate famous Russian nesting dolls because each individual chair rests within a slightly bigger one. Nest chair is the modern yet unique piece of furniture. The chair expresses the idea of the life circle in some way. Each chair is usable, even the small one, it will be perfect for children. With its playful design, and varied bright colours, the seat is appropriate for family homes full of joy.

Interesting Low Maple Table with Glass Leg by John Houshmand

John Houshmand, a company “dedicated to the eternity of trees”, presented its new low table with a glass leg. It is made from the maple. This furniture piece has an original organic look. The asymmetric form is really interesting, and the glass detail adds elegance to the interior. Some words from the architects: “Much of the beauty that is found in one piece of wood is what facilitates the creation of each individual design. All wood has the potential to change with use and though time.” This table looks modern yet natural; it will be suitable both for home design and for the office.

Sculptural Handmade Makemei Furniture

Sometimes the designer’s thought exceeds the structural limits imposed by the materials used for creating the furniture. Here is the great example, the Makemei furniture collection designed by Camiel Weijenberg and Talenia Phua Gajardo. Makemei is the union of the Chinese-Mandarin “Mei” – gorgeous, and English “Make” – do, make. And the name for it is rather suitable. The sculptural pieces of furniture will turn your home into the art gallery. It will surely draw everyone’s attention due to its unusual and creative shape. Some may seem abstract enough that you might not know what the function is at first. Have a look at the sofa “aj double chair”, designed so that two people can sit facing each other, or the “RD Table”, with its inclined surface for increased visibility of books and magazines. All the furniture is handmade.

Nest Chair Design Inspired by Spring

Designer's imagination has no limits. Creative thoughts are reflected in the original designs. The house is a kind of refuge, a fortress, as well as cozy and warm nest, protecting us from the negative impact of the surrounding world. We present to you 2 different chairs, which look like a bird?s nest. On the first picture you can see the creation from Pawel Grunert. Handmade item (the Nest Chair (SIE51)) was made from stainless steel and available on request. The official premier will take place at 2011 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Another contemporary chair was designed by Nina Bruun. The Nest has a very traditional structure: legs, back, and soft round seat. However, all these are skillfully hidden under a different size and thickness birch strips.
